Green Energy for East Hampton

A Call to Action

The citizens of East Hampton deserve green energy but what LIPA, PSE&G Long Island and National Grid don't want you to know is that they operate the East Hamption Generation Facility (the "Facility"), which is a large diesel fired generation facility that was placed in service in the early 1960s and is located in a residential neighborhood off of Buell Lane west of Cove Hollow Road.

The goal of this website is to make the citizens of East Hampton aware of this antiquated and extremely dirty and noisy generation facilty and to ultimately force LIPA, PSE&G Long Island and National Grid (the "Utilities") to shut down and remove the Facility from East Hampton.

The Air Title V Permit expires on May 1, 2021. The citizens of East Hampton must make their voice heard and not allow the air permit to be renewed. In this day and age of renewable and green energy a dirty and noisy diesel fired generation facility should not be allowed to operate in a residental neighborhood.

According to public records, the Facility is remotely operated by National Grid and was placed in service 1962. It consists of 3 diesel generators rated at 2 MW each and a single kerosene fired combustion turbine generator rated at 21 MW. The Facility's Department of Environmental Conservaiton ID number is 1472400345.

The Facility operates between the hours of 8:00 am and 11:00 pm. It generates a noise level that dramatically impairs the quality of life in the surroundig neighborhoods. Moreover, a black diesel exhaust plume is visable when it is running and black particulate matter from the diesel ehaust can be found on outdoor furniture and awnings in the neighborhoods.

On July 1, 2020 PSE&G Long Island put out for public comment through August 24, 2020 its Utility 2.0 Long Range Plan and Energy Efficiency and Demand Response Plan. While the plan lays out in great detail the case for making renewable and green energy available to eastern Long Island, the plan fails to mention nor address the fact that the Utilities continue to rely on a diesel generation facilty.

The Town of East Hampton receives numerous complaints each year regarding Facility's noise and air pollution. With the upcoming expiration of the Title V Air Permit now is the time to make the citizens of East Hampton heard.
